A series of events were organized to commemorate the Kashmir Solidarity Day in Brazil including peaceful demonstrations and solidarity walks, holding of seminar and interaction with the leading journalists and youth of Brazil, in order to highlight atrocities and blatant human rights violations perpetrated by the Indian Security Forces in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
In a solemn and dignified event organized at the Embassy of Pakistan, complete solidarity was expressed with the Kashmiri brethren today wherein messages of the President and the Prime Minister were read out to the audience comprising Brazilian nationals, intellectuals, Pakistan community and officials of Pakistan Embassy.
Speaking at the occasion as the Chief Guest, Ambassador of Pakistan in Brazil H.E. Mr. Najm us Saqib while referring to the message of Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, reiterated Pakistan’s continued unflinching political, diplomatic and moral support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The Ambassador called upon the international community to urge India to end the gross human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir and abide by the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council that called for the final disposition of the State of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with the will of the people of Kashmir expressed through democratic means of a free and impartial plebiscite.
Defence Attaché Brig. Muhammad Yousaf lauded bravery of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and stated that the helpless people of Kashmir were being subjected to one of the worst forms of state terrorism by the Indian army. He reminded the gathering that 2018 was the deadliest year in the history of Jammu and Kashmir struggle whereby Indian Security Forces killed 586 innocent Kashmiri people with 191 incidents of excessive use of force, 275 cordon and search operations and 120 cases of damage to civilian houses. He also highlighted the positive role of Pakistan Army in safeguarding the country borders and fulfilling the tasks with utmost professionalism.
Earlier on 1 February, Pakistani Kashmiri community in association with the representatives of Pakistan-Brazil Association held a demonstration in Brasilia to highlight brutalities committed by the Indian Security Forces in Jammu and Kashmir. The Kashmiri community expressed hope that Brazil-based Pakistanis would be actively engaged on this vital subject. On 2 February, the leading Brasilia-based journalists voiced against the Indian repressive measures to hide reality and the illegal continued occupation of Jammu and Kashmir by India. On 4 February, the youth representatives of University of Brasilia organized a gathering and commemorated the Kashmir Solidarity Day with the officials of Pakistan Embassy.
